Hi folks
As promised in my previous video that if you showed some interest by commenting on the last blog post I’d take the time to create the step by step how to video in getting to the top of the Google Local Search results.
Here’s the video, check it out, and take my advise and don’t just watch it. Actually implement it.
When you signup for a Google account, they will send you an email that you need to verify by clicking a link to prove you are the owner of that email address. Make sure to verifiy your Google account before you start to setup your local business details.
I’ll be posting more tips like this, so leave me a comment with what you thought of this video
More importantly leave me a comment and tell me what you want to learn about and I’ll make more videos specifically on those topics you ask for.
Talk soon
Aaron
Thanks Aaron,
This is a clear, concise step by step tutorial for a useful tool.
You asked for video topics. Would you please make a tutorial on how to install WordPress onto a Netrospect hosting account and how to get started with the software?
thanks, Maria
Hi Aaron,
Great video, thank you for such a clear step by step process.
I’ve only recently noticed those results, had no idea how to get in there, thanks again Aaron, well done!
Cheers
Carmel
PS For future videos, how to embed or upload a Camtasia video where you get a folder full of files after you do the processing/compressing.
Aaron,
Thank you, well done
😉
RG
Thanks mate….going to do it straight away!
@Maria – Great idea, I use WordPress exclusively for my websites (apart from my forums). It’s a wonderful free content management system. So much more than a blogging platform. Did you know that the whole Netrospect website is driven by WordPress.
@Carmel – Good idea about the Camtasia videos, that would suit more for my internet marketing crowd, and I’ll post it on my http://websmartcentral.com/blog
Great Video
Couldn’t be clearer.
I’d go along with the WordPress comments especially using WordPress as content management websites for clients.
Many thanks
Thank you – helpful video. I will need to watch it again to completely understand. When you open a google account is there a charge?
Good question. Is a Google Account free. Yes. I forgot to mention that. The account is free as are all Google tools. Google do charge for some premium levels on a couple of their tools, but local business search is completely free.

My local search shows a list of ten results – I don’t appear in the first ten results.
Obviously other sites are optimising to appear in the first ten.
Is there anything that I can do to move me into the first ten results?
Thanks
Keith D
@Keith Yes, I was working through this with Peter from brisbanehomes.com.au today, who asked a similiar question.
I’ll add some content to the post to make it clearer tomorrow.
What is your keywork phrase you are after in local business search.?
What categories did you put into your Google business listing?
Aaron
Keyword phrase is “website design solihull”
My categories are:
seo
website design services
web design services
search engine optimisation
Regards
Keith
Ahh. You have the hardest competition of all, players that know the same information that you do, and a lot of them.
Your site is on the first page of the natural listings, so you have a good chance of cracking into the top 10 business listing. That’s not a requirement, but it helps to rate your site.
No doubt your competition has been in the local business listing for quite some time.
Make sure to have your web design keywords in your business title.
You may have to tweak your categories, which also act as filtering for Google to position you in the top 10.
Make sure to add photos and videos to your listing. This will add weight to your business listing over others that don’t.
If you haven’t done any video before then make some screen capture videos (camtasia or screenflow) like I have done in this blog post, put it on Youtube (since that’s owned by Google as well) and link to it from your business listing.
Also make sure you fill out every single option you can on the business listing. Hours of operation, etc.
Let me know how you go, this is a good case study for those implementing a business listing.
Aaron
Thanks Aaron
As you guessed, my site is only 4 months old and there is a lot of competition… but it would be nice to be in those top business listings.
I’ll implement your suggestions and track the results.
At the moment I’m 22nd in the business listings for the term “website design solihull”. I’ll track progress and keep you informed.
many thanks for your help
Keith
Just wondered what the Impressions and Views relate to?
Also wondering how I can edit my own website (designed by someone else) as I’m unhappy with a number of simple things such as the page headers don’t help get anywhere near our targeted market.
If not do I need to hire someone else and they’ll be able to access it. Just want to know more!
I have had a google account listed for quite some time now but havn’t been able to hit the top 10 – I’ve changed a couple of categories – shall see how it goes.
@Carol – Impressions are how many times your listing has been shown and views are how many times your website has been visited via the Google Local business listing link.
On your other question regarding changing your website content, hopefully your web designer has given you all the login and password details to access your hosting account. If you own the domain name and the website then you should have access to the all login details not just the web designer.
If you have those details then you can action changes to your website if you feel comfortable in doing so or at least find a decent developer that can make the changes for you.
